St. Patrick’s Day

147

Today’s Think On This podcast comes from our conversation at the table about St. Patrick, the 2nd Bishop and Patron Saint of Ireland.   History.com has an interesting article about St. Patrick entitled, 7 Surprising Facts About St. Patrick’s Day, describes how many of the beliefs surrounding the celebration of his life are myths. Another article, Who Was St. Patrick, is also an interesting read.

Side-note: I assumed (never assume) some of the myths to be true.
So.
When I started questioning the myths a few years ago, I wondered who started the “gossip” as truth about St. Patrick?
Because.
It always starts with one.
And.
Then it made me question why myths survive when the truth is known. It makes me think . . . how easily we believe . . . without checking the facts. The truth sets us free from being influenced by myth and lies. So. In this time of uncertainty, we need to be certain our knowledge and beliefs are based on fact.

Anyway . . .
It’s worth knowing how St. Patrick navigated difficult times through his faith and how he impacted generation after generation. The description of his autobiography, Confession (Confessio), can be found on the Goodread’s site under St. Patrick, shifting us from the myth to the reality of the truth of his life built on faith.

May you be blessed with faith today!
LISTEN . . .

THINK ON THIS . . .
St. Patrick’s words give soul-deep strength:
“Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ where I lie, Christ where I sit, Christ where I arise,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every one who speaks to me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.”

St. Patrick’s blessing is for all:
May the strength of God pilot us.
May the power of God preserve us.
May the wisdom of God instruct us.
May the hand of God protect us, this day and evermore.”
PERSPECTIVE . . .
