The Simple Message Of Love

Listen . . .

Think On This . . .

Saturday is TableThink’s day to focus on slowing-down.

Taking a breath on the weekend, slowing down, and stepping back from the busyness of the week is smart living.

So . . .

My dad likes to make things clear.  Back in my college days, dad sent a letter  attached to my tax return he had prepared for me. I still remember the simple message:

“Sign it.  Seal it. Send it.  Love, Dad.”

Yes.   My dad made his message clear.

I understood what I needed to do.

I did it.

Dad never has made anything complicated but has always expected me to step up and do my part.   Before he and I went down the aisle at my wedding he told me,

“You will set the tone.  If, you are happy this will be a celebration.  You are directing this night. Celebrate.”

I understood what I was to do.  The thing is . . . I knew my dad well . . . and also understood his silent but loud message:

“Don’t cry because it will make me cry.”

Anyway . . .

It’s the same when we live the with-God life . . . because Jesus simplified his message of how to live . . .  with one word:  Love.

  • Love God.
  • Love yourself.
  • Love your neighbor.

The simple and powerful word, love, defines life.

Jesus’ words about love  recorded in Mark 12:33 were directed without apology to the religious leaders who promoted living from a list of rules.

Love is not about rules.

Love is what matters. Love is what sets the tone in the world.  Love is everything.

Pause . . . take a breath today . . . and focus on the meaning of Jesus’ words: Love God with everything you have . . . and love your neighbor . . .  the way you love yourself.

Slow down with the awareness of the presence and power of love.

Perspective . . .

“To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices” (Mark 12:33 (Voice)).
